Unreadable characters (scrambled text) in Wine (Linux)

If Windows programs running under Wine are displayed with unreadable characters, you will need to install some standard TTF (TrueType) fonts to your Wine profile directory.

Get core fonts (bunch of TrueType fonts) from:
http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/

or alternatively locate your Windows Fonts directory (usually: C:WindowsFonts).

Install web core TTF fonts. If you have Windows installation, copy TTF files (Windows partition is mounted under /mnt/winc - substitute for proper path):
cp /mnt/winc/Windows/Fonts/*.ttf /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/
(substitute /home/username/ for your home directory)

Run your Windows program under Wine and all characters should be displayed properly - e.g. no more unreadable text or symbols or frames.
